I'm frightened of Singapore's political landscape turning into a circus like Taiwan or the Philipines, where someone with charisma rather than substance can get elected into office (and plunder the country's coffers) ... or someone with gangster background can get into parliament by popular votes and make a mockery of the system by staging fights in the chambers ... or perhaps I'm more frightened of another kind of apathy ... the cynical apathy that comes from seeing politicians bickering and mud-slinging at each other ... like what I see in many canadians ..... bad mouthing is perhaps something to be expected in politics .... but heckling and baseless accusations is not ... that is why I'm glad CSJ is getting "fixed" ... one thing I learnt though ... is that in a liberal democracy ... truth and reality are often the first casualties ...
